Working abroad is about more than the rate shown in an advertisement. When looking for work abroad, candidates most often compare vacancies by country, salary, accommodation, schedule, and the possibility of working without previous experience. Actual income is affected by guaranteed hours, taxes, accommodation, transport, and supplements, so two vacancies with the same hourly rate may produce different results at the end of the month.
This article uses data from current vacancies in the WORKIUM catalogue and general employment rules needed to compare working conditions abroad.
To compare vacancies correctly, focus on the same indicators: the gross or net rate, guaranteed hours, agreement type, all deductions, accommodation conditions, and commuting arrangements. Candidates looking for work abroad should pay particular attention to the lawful basis for employment. The data in this article was checked on 25 July 2026. Statutory amounts are stated as gross unless expressly indicated otherwise.

Frequently asked questions
The WORKIUM catalogue includes vacancies in warehouses, manufacturing, logistics, construction, and service work. Positions highlighted by WORKIUM as popular include packer, order picker, warehouse worker, sorter, and production operator.
The same job title may refer to different duties. For example, warehouse work may involve order picking with a scanner, moving loads, or working in a cold-storage area. Before applying, clarify the permitted weight, temperature, and how productivity is assessed.
Some entry-level positions are suitable for candidates without previous experience, but training, probation, and pay conditions depend on the specific vacancy. Do not refer to an «average» probation period without linking it to a particular country and agreement: statutory limits and actual conditions differ.
The figures below are not market averages but specific examples from the WORKIUM catalogue as of 25 July 2026:
the catalogue includes, among others, vacancies linked to employers and projects such as Ferrero, Zara / ID Logistics, Zalando / Ceva, Sopp, and Lucky Union Foods;
the Lucky Union Foods vacancy states a Monday–Friday schedule, accommodation at 540 PLN per month, and pay of 26–31.40 PLN net per hour;
the Zalando / Ceva vacancy states a Monday–Saturday schedule, accommodation at 720 PLN per month and pay of 25.36–31.40 PLN net per hour;
catalogue filters include accommodation for 2 people, 3–4 people, 5–8 people per room, or a separate room for a couple;
schedule options include Monday–Friday, Monday–Saturday, and rotating schedules; shift-length options include 8, 8–10, 10, 10–12, and 12 hours.
These figures cannot automatically be applied to other vacancies. A filter shows which options exist in the catalogue, not how often they occur. One vacancy listing also does not prove that its accommodation cost or schedule is typical for a country.
WORKIUM vacancies do not have one standard accommodation deposit. If a deposit applies, ask for the amount, currency, grounds for deductions, and refund deadline to be stated in writing. Where exact information is unavailable, it is better not to rely on assumed «average» figures.
The catalogue includes vacancies for candidates without experience, couples, and applicants with different requirements regarding physical workload, schedules, and accommodation. Gender or family status does not determine the quality of an offer: it is more important to compare the duties, workload, accommodation, and written conditions.
Couples should immediately clarify whether they will work at the same company, whether their shifts will match, and whether a separate room is provided. Students need to check the lawful basis for employment and whether the schedule is compatible with their studies. Qualified candidates — such as welders, electricians, or drivers — should establish in advance whether their licence or certificate is recognised in the chosen country.
Start by comparing work in Poland, the lawful basis for employment, and accommodation costs.
If you are considering work in the Czech Republic, check the agreement type, the language used for safety briefings, the schedule, and the salary-payment procedure.
Candidates interested in work in Germany should compare the gross rate with taxes, accommodation, and transport, and also check whether a higher sector-specific minimum rate applies.
Poland: 4,806 PLN gross per month; for certain agreements — 31.40 PLN gross per hour. Check the agreement type, hours, accommodation, and deductions.
Czech Republic: 22,400 CZK gross per month or 134.40 CZK gross per hour. Clarify the shift system, the language used for briefings, and the contents of the payslip.
Germany: 13.90 EUR gross per hour. Take into account taxes, any sector-specific rate, accommodation, and transport.
These are statutory minimums, not a salary forecast for a particular candidate. Net pay depends on the agreement, taxes, contributions, and personal circumstances.
Working abroad provides more opportunities to compare vacancies and choose an employer. At the same time, relocation creates costs for travel, accommodation, and transport, while a language barrier can make it harder to understand the agreement and safety briefing.
Compare not only the advertised rate but also working conditions supported by clear figures. A higher rate does not automatically compensate for fewer hours or expensive accommodation. Likewise, legal work in the EU does not mean identical procedures in every country: the right to stay, the right to work, and employer requirements must be checked separately.
The biggest practical risk is relying on verbal promises. If the agreement does not state the rate, working hours, or accommodation cost, an advertising description does not replace a written condition.
EU minimum standards provide for an average limit of 48 hours per week including overtime, at least 11 consecutive hours of daily rest, weekly rest, and at least 4 weeks of paid annual leave. National rules or collective agreements may be more favourable.
For displaced people from Ukraine, temporary protection in the EU is valid until 4 March 2027; on 15 July 2026, EU countries agreed to extend it until 4 March 2028. Before travelling, check the current status of the decision and the procedure in the chosen country.
As of 25 July 2026:
in Poland, the minimum monthly salary under an employment contract is 4,806 PLN gross; the minimum hourly rate for certain civil-law agreements is 31.40 PLN gross per hour;
in the Czech Republic, the minimum wage from 1 January 2026 is 22,400 CZK gross per month or 134.40 CZK gross per hour for a 40-hour week;
in Germany, the nationwide minimum rate from 1 January 2026 is 13.90 EUR gross per hour.
Compare the guaranteed base rather than the highest advertised rate. For example, 31.40 PLN × 160 guaranteed hours = 5,024 PLN gross. At 200 hours, the arithmetic result would be 6,280 PLN gross, but the additional 40 hours cannot be treated as guaranteed without a written schedule. Taxes, contributions, and agreed expenses are still deducted from the gross amount.
Ask for the base rate, the number of hours fixed in the agreement, supplements for night shifts and public holidays, bonuses, all deductions, and the payment date to be stated separately. The phrase «bonus up to 1,000 PLN» guarantees nothing without written criteria for how it is calculated.
In the Czech Republic, the standard week is 40 hours, 38.75 hours in a two-shift system, and 37.5 hours in a three-shift or continuous system. One shift may not exceed 12 hours; after a maximum of 6 hours of work, a 30-minute break is required.
Phrases such as «5/2», «6/1», or «8–12 hours» are not sufficient. Ask for an example of a weekly calendar showing start and finish times, breaks, night shifts, days off, and how overtime is agreed. If an advertisement states «up to 240 hours per month», clarify separately which hours are guaranteed, which are overtime, and which are only the maximum possible.
In practice, the most dangerous misunderstanding occurs when a candidate multiplies the highest rate by the maximum number of hours. Both figures may depend on productivity, seasonality, or voluntary additional shifts.
Before buying a ticket, obtain the employer's full legal name, workplace address, description of duties, rate, guaranteed hours, start date, and a draft agreement. Verbal promises of free accommodation or a bonus should be confirmed in writing.
Before accepting a vacancy, check three things:
What is the company's legal name?
Where is the workplace located?
Which document confirms the rate and guaranteed hours?
If, instead of receiving answers, you are pressured to pay or travel immediately, the checks are not complete. Do not hand your passport to an employer or intermediary for safekeeping; processing may require a copy or brief presentation of the original for a clearly explained purpose.
If you need work with accommodation, clarify the monthly fee, utilities, deposit, number of people per room, address, journey time, and move-out rules before moving in.
An example from the catalogue illustrates the difference: accommodation at 540 PLN and at 720 PLN per month are specific conditions of two vacancies, not a guaranteed range for Poland. Also clarify whether the price is charged for a full month or proportionally by day, and what happens if you change jobs.
A room photo does not confirm the address, number of residents, or absence of additional charges. Ask for written confirmation and calculate what remains after accommodation and transport rather than considering the rate on its own.
Work without language skills is possible in some roles with repetitive processes. However, an employee must be able to understand safety instructions, report an injury, and check salary calculations.
Before travelling, find out which language is used for training, who assigns tasks, and whether a coordinator is available during the shift. The phrase «we will help on site» should not be treated as confirmation of translation support without the name and contact details of the responsible person.
Start not with the highest rate but with four constraints: country, occupation, acceptable schedule, and the minimum amount you want to keep after expenses. Then filter vacancies by accommodation, language, and experience, check the employer, and request a draft agreement.
A practical approach is to select 3–5 relevant offers, write down the rate, confirmed working hours, deductions, and accommodation for each one, and then exclude those where key conditions are not confirmed in writing.
Choose the country, occupation, schedule, and minimum income after expenses.
Check the lawful basis for employment and the employer's details.
Compare at least three vacancies using the same criteria.
Obtain the agreement and calculate guaranteed income.
Confirm accommodation, the start date, and the contact details of the responsible person.
Only then plan the journey.
View current vacancies abroad on WORKIUM, apply the relevant filters, and compare pay, guaranteed working hours, the agreement, accommodation, and transport. Choose work abroad that matches your requirements and apply only after the key details have been confirmed in writing.
If you are in Ukraine and find it difficult to choose a vacancy on your own, call the free 2598 job hotline. A consultant will help you find work abroad, compare current vacancies in Poland and other EU countries, and explain the pay, schedule, accommodation and employer requirements.
The choice depends on more than just salary. Compare available vacancies, housing costs, transportation, language requirements, and the documents needed for legal employment. Pay may be higher in one country, but accommodation and travel expenses can take up a significant part of your income. Start with the conditions of a specific vacancy rather than the country’s overall popularity.
Yes. Many warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and logistics centers provide on-the-job training for new employees. However, employers may require physical stamina, willingness to work shifts, or the ability to use a scanner. Before you travel, ask for a description of a typical workday, the length of the training period, and the pay rate during onboardin
You should know the employer’s name, the type of employment contract, the pay rate, the work schedule, and the employment terms before you start working. Do not agree to work without proper documentation or sign any papers unless you fully understand their contents. If an intermediary hides the employer’s identity or promises to complete the paperwork only after you have worked several shifts, this is a serious warning sign.
You should buy your ticket only after receiving written confirmation of the job offer, the workplace address, accommodation, your start date, and the contact details of the person who will meet you. Also check which documents are required for entry and legal employment. A verbal promise from a recruiter is not enough, especially if the terms keep changing.
Keep copies of the job advertisement, your contract, and all correspondence, and document any differences in writing or with photos. First, contact your coordinator and ask for a specific solution. Do not rush to sign revised terms or hand over additional money without proper documentation. If the issue is serious, seek assistance from the appropriate authorities or a consular office.
Start with the guaranteed hourly rate and the guaranteed number of working hours, then add only confirmed bonuses or additional payments. Next, subtract the costs of accommodation, transportation, food, taxes, and any other deductions. Do not use the maximum salary advertised in the job listing as an estimate of your actual earnings. It is also a good idea to have enough savings to cover your expenses until you receive your first paycheck.
