Compare vacancies using the formula:

rate × guaranteed hours + guaranteed supplements − accommodation − transport − other confirmed deductions.

Example: 33 PLN gross × 168 hours = 5,544 PLN gross. Another vacancy offering 31.50 PLN and 200 guaranteed hours provides 6,300 PLN gross. A higher hourly rate alone does not guarantee a higher income.

Clarify:

• whether the amount in the advertisement is gross or net;

• how many hours are guaranteed;

• whether a target must be met to receive the bonus;

• how night and overtime hours are paid;

• whether there are periods with less work;

• when the first salary is paid;

• which amounts are deducted from the payment.

The phrase «salary up to 9,000 PLN» should be supported by a calculation. Ask how much of this amount comes from the basic rate, how much from overtime, and how much from a bonus whose conditions still have to be met.

How to check the schedule and transport

The number of shifts does not show the full picture — it is important to know the start and finish times and the journey to the workplace. A 6:00–14:00 schedule may be convenient within the city but require departure well before 5:00 if the workplace is in the suburbs.

For each shift, record:

• the time you need to leave the accommodation;

• the route and transfers;

• extra time in case of delays;

• the work start and finish times;

• the employer-provided bus time;

• the actual return time.

If a shift lasts 10 hours and the journey takes 75 minutes in each direction, the employee is away from the accommodation for 12.5 hours. With a 6/1 schedule, this is approximately 75 hours per week. This calculation should be made before accepting the vacancy.

Ask how many days in advance the schedule is announced and whether the shift can be changed without notice. For a candidate who depends on the employer-provided bus, even a 30-minute difference can completely change the route.

What you need to know about accommodation
