Gdańsk — is a port city and part of the Tricity together with Sopot and Gdynia. In Gdańsk, workers are most often sought for logistics, warehouses, port services, manufacturing, hotels, restaurants, cleaning, and retail. However, a vacancy labelled «Gdańsk» may be located far from the city centre or even in another part of the metropolitan area.
To compare vacancies, it is important to look beyond the rate. The exact address, schedule, transport after a night shift, seasonality, language requirements, and possible access permits for port areas all matter.
Which vacancies are available in Gdańsk
What working within the Tricity means
How work near the port differs
Who work in Gdańsk may suit
How to compare the rate and monthly income
How to assess the schedule and seasonality

Which questions to ask the recruiter
The Port of Gdańsk, logistics centres, and warehouse parks create demand for warehouse workers, order pickers, packers, forklift operators, sorting workers, and technical staff. Shipbuilding and other manufacturing sectors need welders, fitters, electricians, installers, and quality controllers.
Vacancies more commonly found in tourist and central districts include:
housekeeper;
cleaner;
kitchen worker;
waiter;
shop worker;
service worker;
courier;
administrator with Polish or English language skills.
The same job title may involve different conditions. For example, a warehouse worker near the port may work two shifts, pass through an access checkpoint, and pick heavy goods. The same position in another part of the city may involve scanner-based work in a heated building.
Official city data shows the scale of port activity: in the first half of 2026, the Port of Gdańsk handled 41.7 million tonnes of cargo, while Baltic Hub handled — almost 1.6 million TEU. These figures are not a forecast of vacancy numbers, but they explain why logistics and port services are especially important to the city.
Before applying, clarify not only the profession but also the daily duties, permitted weight, workplace location, temperature, and access requirements. If you have not yet chosen a region, review the general overview of work in Poland.
Where vacancies are more commonly found in Gdańsk
Nowy Port, Letnica, and Przeróbka — port infrastructure, terminals, and technical work;
Kokoszki — warehouses, manufacturing, and logistics;
Matarnia — the airport district, warehouses, and transport companies.
The district name in a vacancy does not replace the exact address: a large industrial zone may have an inconvenient entrance or a distant transport stop.
Gdańsk, Sopot, and Gdynia form one metropolitan area, but this does not mean that every journey is equally short. A vacancy may be in the port districts of Nowy Port, Letnica, or Przeróbka, near the airport in Matarnia, in the warehouse and manufacturing zone of Kokoszki, or in a neighbouring city.
Before accepting a vacancy, ask for:
the full workplace address;
the accommodation address;
the shift start and finish times;
the route by bus, tram, or urban railway;
the boarding point for employer-provided transport;
the timetable at weekends and at night.
For example, the distance between the accommodation and workplace may look short on a map, but the route may require two transfers. If the shift ends after regular services stop operating, night transport or employer-provided transport must be checked.
When working with candidates, WORKIUM often sees the same problem: people assess distance in kilometres but do not consider transfers and waiting time. Ask for a route specifically for your shift, not a general daytime screenshot.
Gdańsk's logistics market is closely connected with the port, terminals, and transport companies, but Gdynia also has its own port and logistics market. Therefore, do not accept the vague wording «somewhere in the Tricity» without an exact address.
A vacancy «at the port» does not necessarily mean working on a ship. It may involve a warehouse, terminal, cargo handling, technical maintenance, security, cleaning, forwarding, or repairs.
For particular zones, the employer may require:
an identity document;
a preliminary background check;
an access pass;
a medical examination;
safety training;
a licence for operating equipment;
protective clothing and equipment;
Polish for safety instructions.
Do not pay for courses or certificates yourself until the employer has confirmed the exact requirement. Ask who arranges the access pass, how long it takes, and whether the waiting period is paid.
If an advertisement states «work at the port», clarify the exact area and duties. The difference between packing in a logistics centre and working in an open yard is significant: the weather, workload, clothing, and schedule may be completely different.
Warehouse, manufacturing, and service vacancies are often available to people without experience if training is provided. At the same time, the work may require night shifts, physical stamina, long periods of standing, or customer contact.
Before applying, check:
the permitted weight;
whether the work is indoors or outdoors;
exposure to wind, cold, or precipitation;
the shift length;
night and weekend work;
the target;
the language used for instructions;
the journey time.
Qualified specialists may find vacancies as welders, marine electricians, installers, mechanics, forklift operators, or drivers. Clarify which certificates are recognised and whether Polish confirmation is required.
Labels such as «for men», «for women», or «for couples» do not replace a job description. Couples should receive written confirmation that they will work at the same location, have compatible shifts, and share accommodation.
From 1 January 2026, the minimum salary in Poland for a full month of work under an employment contract is 4,806 PLN gross. The minimum hourly rate for contracts covered by it is — 31.40 PLN gross. The net amount depends on the contract, taxes, contributions, and the employee's circumstances.
Compare vacancies using the formula:
rate × guaranteed hours + guaranteed supplements − accommodation − transport − other confirmed deductions.
Example:
35 PLN gross × 160 guaranteed hours = 5,600 PLN gross;
32 PLN gross × 200 guaranteed hours = 6,400 PLN gross.
The higher hourly rate in the first offer does not result in a higher monthly amount. This is a calculation example, not a typical salary in Gdańsk.
For port or night-shift vacancies, separately ask about supplements for night work, outdoor work, overtime, and weekends. If the advertisement states «up to 9,000 PLN», request a calculation showing the hours and supplements required to reach that amount.
Before accepting, confirm:
whether the amount is gross or net;
the contract type;
the guaranteed hours;
the rules for supplements;
the bonuses;
the date of the first payment;
all deductions.
At the port, in logistics, and in manufacturing, two or three shifts, night work, and 5/2 or 6/1 schedules may be used. In hotels, restaurants, and tourism, demand and the number of shifts may change depending on the season and workload.
Do not treat «8–12 hours» as a guaranteed schedule. Clarify the minimum number of hours, the rules for extending a shift, and when the employee receives the timetable.
Include travel time. A ten-hour shift and 75 minutes of transport in each direction mean 12.5 hours away from home. Over six working days, this is 75 hours per week, excluding waiting time.
For outdoor work, ask whether waterproof and warm clothing is provided, how breaks are organised, and what happens during adverse weather.
Vacancies without Polish-language requirements are available in warehouses, packing, simple manufacturing operations, and some technical teams. However, language may be required for safety, access-control procedures, or communication with a supervisor.
It is easier to start if:
there is a Ukrainian-speaking coordinator;
instructions are provided in a language the candidate understands;
the work does not require customer contact;
the team leader can explain the task;
the equipment interface is understandable.
Polish or English is more often required in hotels, restaurants, retail, at the airport, and in passenger services. Ask which language is used for training and daily communication rather than only whether «fluent Polish» is required.
If you are interested in work in Gdańsk with accommodation, check the living conditions, address, and costs separately. To compare vacancies in the city, it is important to know the full accommodation cost and the route to work.
Ask for:
the address;
current photographs;
the monthly price;
utility charges;
the deposit;
the number of people in the room;
transport for each shift;
the rules after employment ends.
Accommodation that is 400 PLN cheaper may be less advantageous if the longer route requires an additional ticket and takes 30 hours per month. Compare rent, transport, and time together.
During the tourist season, room availability and prices may change. Ask for written confirmation of the cost for the entire period, not only the first month.
WORKIUM verifies the employer and key conditions before publishing a vacancy. Before departure, confirm again:
the employer's name;
the exact address;
the duties;
the contract type;
the rate and guaranteed hours;
the schedule;
access permits and medical examination;
the accommodation and transport;
the language;
the start date and coordinator's contact details.
After arrival, compare the actual address, schedule, rate, and accommodation with the written arrangements. Do not transfer money to a private bank card to «reserve» a place without an agreement and confirmation of the conditions.
Review current WORKIUM vacancies and compare offers using the same criteria.
Before buying a ticket, clarify:
Is it Gdańsk, another Tricity city, or the surrounding area?
What is the full address?
What are the daily duties?
Is an access pass or certificate required?
What is the rate, and is it stated gross?
How many hours are guaranteed?
What is the schedule?
How can employees travel home after a night shift?
What is the full cost of accommodation?
When is the first payment?
If the exact address, guaranteed hours, or full accommodation cost are unavailable, the decision to move is still premature.
Your earnings depend on the position, the type of contract, the number of working hours, night shifts, and additional payments. Compare the gross pay, the guaranteed number of working hours, and all deductions. Ask the employer to provide an estimated pay calculation based on your work schedule and to list all deductions in writing.
Such vacancies are available in warehouses and manufacturing. Polish may be required more often for jobs in the port, security, and service sector. The conditions for the specific vacancy should be confirmed before buying tickets.
Yes, but the accommodation may not be free and may be located in another part of the Tricity area. Confirm the address, cost, security deposit, and transportation options. Before your departure, obtain the exact address, the full accommodation cost, and the accommodation rules in writing.
