As of August 19, 2026, the minimum wage for unskilled work is €1,153 gross per month or €7.05 gross per hour. The minimum cannot be automatically used for a skilled position: if the job requires special knowledge or professional skills, the wage must be set above the statutory minimum for unskilled work.

What jobs are available in Lithuania

Vacancies for foreigners can the following areas may occur:

• operator or production worker;
• packer and quality controller;
• assembler or warehouse worker;
• furniture factory worker;
• food company worker;
• builder, welder, carpenter or electrician;
• driver and logistics worker;
• seasonal work in agriculture.

The list does not mean that these professions are available in every city or at any time. Open recruitment, candidate criteria and start date are determined by the specific vacancy card.

Offers may appear in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda and industrial zones near other cities. The name of the city is only a guide: before responding, the exact address of the enterprise and a map of its location are required. The number and type of vacancies vary depending on the season and the needs of employers.

The same title does not guarantee the same duties. A “furniture worker” may pack finished parts, work at a machine tool, or move slabs. Before applying, it is worth clarifying the weight of materials, working posture, pace of work, noise level, and use of tools.

In the vacancy card, pay attention to the employer, address, description of each operation, requirements, schedule, and payment. If it only says “auxiliary work,” ask for a specific list of tasks or a short video of the process.

Some advertisements may not require Lithuanian if the company has a coordinator. However, to work with equipment, you need to understand instructions and safety commands. Ask what language the training is in and who to contact during the shift.

How to calculate your salary

In 2026, the state minimum is €7.05 gross per hour and €1,153 gross per month for unskilled work. Gross is the amount before taxes and contributions; it cannot be called a take-home pay.

Four indicators are needed to compare offers:

• basic gross rate;
• number of guaranteed paid hours;
• surcharges based on the actual schedule;
• costs deducted from the salary.

Conditional calculation: €8 gross × 168 hours = €1,344 gross before taxes, contributions and surcharges. If the headline promises €1,650, the employer should explain which night, overtime, holiday hours or bonuses make up the additional €306.

Do not include the “before” bonus in the guaranteed budget. The bonus may depend on attendance, rate, quality or duration of work. Ask for the formula, the date of payment and a list of cases when it is not accrued.

The minimum wage is only allowed for unskilled labor. If the job requires a professional certificate, special skills, operating complex equipment, or responsibility for a technological process, ask how the qualification is taken into account in the rate.

Compare jobs using the same formula: guaranteed income after projected taxes minus housing, transportation, and other mandatory payments. The maximum amount without calculating hours does not show the real result.

Work schedules and premium pay

Standard working hours in Lithuania are 40 hours per week. Together with overtime, the average should not exceed 48 hours in seven days. Taking into account additional work, a shift can last up to 12 hours without a lunch break, and the total duration can be up to 60 hours in seven days within the limits prescribed by law. An employee should not work more than six consecutive days in a seven-day period.

These maximums are not a typical or guaranteed schedule. For a specific vacancy, request a calendar that includes:

• the start and end of each shift;
• the duration and pay of breaks;
• the number of working days;
• the alternation of day and night;
• the guaranteed monthly fund;
• the conditions for overtime.

Night and overtime work is paid at least 1.5 times the regular rate. Work on a holiday or a day of rest that is not on the schedule is paid at least double the rate. Overtime on a holiday is at least 2.5 rates.

A conditional example: at a base rate of €8 gross, a night hour with a minimum coefficient of 1.5 gives €12 gross. But you can plan a surcharge only if night hours are really in your calendar.

Be careful if the advertisement shows a high amount "with overtime", but the employer does not name the main schedule. First, find out how many hours are guaranteed without additional changes.

Contract and probationary period

An employment contract in Lithuania is drawn up in writing in two copies: one is received by the employee, the other is kept by the employer. The document must include the place of work, functions, profession or qualification, payment system, salary amount and payment procedure.

There are open-ended, fixed-term, project-based, temporary, seasonal and other types of contracts. If the parties have not specified the type of contract, it is considered to be indefinite. For the same job, the total duration of successive fixed-term contracts cannot normally exceed two years, unless the law provides for an exception.

The probationary period must be written into the contract. Normally, it cannot exceed 3 months, and in cases provided for by law, 6 months. A verbal agreement to “work without registration at first” is not a probationary period.

Before signing, check the contract with the vacancy card:

• Legal name of the employer;
• Address;
• Position and responsibilities;
• Gross rate;
• Schedule;
• Start date;
• Term of the contract;
• Probationary period;
• Bonus;
• Sustenance.

If the rate, address, position, or start date have changed, ask for a new written version. A screenshot of the ad and correspondence help to renew promises, but do not replace a signed contract.

Documents for legal work

The basis for employment depends on citizenship and residence status. Ukrainians with valid temporary protection in Lithuania can work according to the rules of this status. For other foreigners, requirements may apply regarding a permit, a decision of the employment service or the appropriate type of residence.

The phrase "biometrics possible" or "Polish visa suitable" is not enough. The right to enter does not always equal the right to work. Before starting work, ask for a written legal basis for your document and check it on the official resource.

For regulated professions and jobs with increased risk, recognition of qualifications, a certificate or local admission may be required. This applies, in particular, to certain medical, electrical, transport and construction specialties.

How to verify an employer and evaluate reviews

The query "work in Lithuania reviews" is popular, but one comment does not prove the conditions of a specific vacancy. The review may be about another branch, broker, dormitory, shift, or recruitment period.

First, check the facts:

• the legal name and registration details of the company;
• who signs the contract and pays the salary;
• the address of the company;
• the position and list of operations;
• the base rate and guaranteed hours;
• the schedule;
• the date of the first shift;
• the address and price of housing;
• the contact information of the coordinator.

Then, look for reviews about this employer and location. Compare recurring specific facts: payment delays, the difference between declared and actual responsibilities, the condition of housing, or the operation of transport. General phrases without dates and details have less evidentiary value.

Do not transfer money to a private card for a “vacancy reservation” without a contract, invoice and return policy. Do not plan a trip until you have written confirmation of the start date, work address and contact information of the person coordinating the arrival.

Conditional budget: €1,100 net minus €300 for accommodation and €50 for transport leaves €750 for food and personal needs. This is not a market statistic, but a formula for comparing two real vacancies.

If the shift starts at 06:00 or ends at night, check more than just the kilometers. You need the company bus schedule, pick-up point, travel time and return plan after overtime.
