Katowice — is the centre of a large urban metropolitan area where the boundary between neighbouring cities is often barely noticeable. This is why the word «Katowice» in a vacancy does not guarantee that the workplace is located in the city itself: it may be in Chorzów, Sosnowiec, Mysłowice, Tychy, or another part of Upper Silesia. Before applying, it is important to obtain the exact address and check the route for your shift.
In the region, workers are sought for manufacturing, warehouses, logistics, retail, cleaning, hospitality, food service, and technical services. The hourly rate alone does not show the real income: guaranteed hours, supplements, contract type, accommodation, and the journey to work all affect it.

How to apply for a vacancy safely
Katowice is no longer limited to heavy-industry jobs. In the city itself and neighbouring towns within the metropolitan area, vacancies are available at manufacturing companies, logistics centres, shops, service companies, hotels, and food-service establishments.
The most common sectors include:
production-line operator;
packer and quality controller;
order picker;
warehouse worker;
forklift operator with the appropriate authorisation;
shop worker;
cleaner;
kitchen worker;
hotel worker;
fitter, welder, or electrician with confirmed qualifications.
The same job title does not mean the same duties. A «production worker» may assemble small parts while seated, inspect finished products, or carry components weighing several kilograms throughout the shift. Therefore, the WORKIUM team recommends requesting a list of daily operations, permitted weight, workshop temperature, and information about standing work before applying.
If you are still choosing a region, start with the general overview of work in Poland. This page focuses specifically on what matters for vacancies in Katowice and neighbouring cities in the metropolitan area.
Do not confuse the city with the entire metropolitan area
Employers and agencies sometimes use the name Katowice as a familiar reference point. The actual address may be 10–40 kilometres from the city centre. This is not necessarily a poor offer if there is direct transport or an organised employee shuttle, but the workplace must be identified before departure.
Where to look for work in the metropolitan area
Katowice itself has more service, retail, hotel, and office vacancies. In Tychy, a significant share of offers comes from manufacturing companies, including the automotive sector. Sosnowiec and Dąbrowa Górnicza have logistics and warehouse facilities, while Gliwice has industrial companies and manufacturing parks. These are general reference points, not a guarantee: every vacancy must be checked using the actual workplace address.
Why candidates consider Katowice
The region's advantage is the number of nearby cities and different types of employers. Some candidates look not only for vacancies in the city itself but also for work near Katowice. A manufacturing vacancy in Tychy or a logistics vacancy in Sosnowiec may be more convenient if direct employer-provided transport is available from the accommodation. Therefore, it is important to assess not only the city named in the vacancy but also the actual route at the time of your shift.
Vacancies in the metropolitan area often combine hourly pay, rotating schedules, and the possibility of organised transport. Even when the rate is clear, the address, guaranteed hours, and whether the employee pays for transport must be confirmed separately.
In Upper Silesia, cities are connected by buses, trams, and rail, but a route that is convenient during the day may not operate after a night shift. Instead of asking «is it near Katowice?», request:
the full workplace address;
the accommodation address, if accommodation is offered;
the start and finish time of each shift;
the boarding point for the employer-provided bus;
the journey time without waiting and including transfers;
the timetable for Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.
Practical example: the shift ends at 22:00, but the last convenient bus from the industrial zone leaves earlier. The route looks acceptable on a daytime timetable, but in practice the employee would have to wait for a night service or pay for a taxi. Such a detail may eliminate the advantage of a higher rate.
WORKIUM recommends checking the route for the day of the week and time that match the actual schedule. A route screenshot taken at 12:00 does not confirm that it is possible to return after a shift ending at 02:00.
Manufacturing and warehouse vacancies may suit candidates without Polish work experience if the employer provides training. At the same time, it is important to assess the physical workload, night shifts, noise, temperature, and the need to work standing for long periods honestly.
Before applying, check whether these conditions suit you:
whether you can work two or three shifts;
whether you have restrictions on lifting weight;
whether you are prepared for repetitive operations;
whether special footwear or hearing protection is required;
whether you have UDT authorisation, a welding certificate, or another qualification;
whether you can travel independently to an early shift.
For customer-facing work, retail, hotels, and restaurants, Polish is usually more important than for simple manufacturing operations. Technical specialists may be offered a higher rate, but the employer has the right to verify qualifications and practical skills.
As of 2026, the minimum salary in Poland for full-time employment under an umowa o pracę is 4,806 PLN gross per month. The minimum hourly rate of 31.40 PLN gross applies to specified civil-law contracts, including many umowa zlecenie agreements. These are statutory minimums, not the typical salary for every vacancy in Katowice.
To compare two offers, record:
the gross or net rate;
the contract type;
the minimum guaranteed number of hours;
the rules for payment of night, overtime, and public-holiday hours;
the bonus conditions;
the cost of accommodation and transport;
the date of the first payment.
For example, a rate of 34 PLN gross with 160 guaranteed hours produces 5,440 PLN gross before supplements. A rate of 31.40 PLN for 200 hours produces 6,280 PLN gross, but some hours may be overtime and paid under different rules. This is only an arithmetic comparison: the actual net amount depends on the contract, taxes, and the employee's status.
The phrase «up to 8,000 PLN» is not a guarantee. Request a calculation showing how many hours must be worked, which bonuses are included, and what will be deducted. When verifying vacancies, WORKIUM considers not only the maximum amount in the advertisement but also the rate, guaranteed hours, and actual deductions — these details are what make it possible to assess real income.
Manufacturing and warehouse work may involve two or three shifts, 5/2 or 6/1 schedules, and shifts lasting 8–12 hours. In services and retail, the schedule may vary. None of these arrangements should be treated as standard for every employer: the exact timetable should be stated in the offer or agreement.
If the advertisement states «8–12 hours», clarify:
how many hours are guaranteed by the agreement;
who decides whether the shift is extended;
when the employee receives the schedule;
how overtime is paid;
how long the breaks last;
whether night shifts are compulsory.
Add travel time to the working day. A ten-hour shift plus 70 minutes in each direction means more than 12 hours away from home. With a 6/1 schedule, this is a significant workload even if the rate appears attractive.
Vacancies without fluent Polish are available in packing, simple manufacturing operations, sorting, and some warehouse processes. However, «without language skills» should not mean that the employee cannot understand safety instructions.
Before starting work, find out:
which language is used for instructions;
whether there is a Ukrainian-speaking or Russian-speaking coordinator;
which language is used by the scanner or production terminal;
who should be informed about a malfunction or injury;
whether Polish is required to move to another operation.
For checkout work, reception, customer service, and team-leader positions, employers are more likely to expect Polish-language skills. If the recruiter only replies that «the language is not required», ask how training and daily communication are organised.
The search for work in Katowice with accommodation has a separate intent, so only a basic check is provided here. For an initial comparison, it is sufficient to determine:
the exact address;
the accommodation type and number of people in the room;
the full monthly cost;
the distance to work;
transport for each shift;
Example: accommodation is 500 PLN cheaper, but the journey requires two tickets, takes 50 minutes in each direction, and does not operate at night. The total costs and time should be compared, not only the rent.
If the employer arranges transport, ask whether it is free, where the stop is located, and what happens when a shift is delayed. A promise that «transport is available» without a route and timetable does not make it possible to assess the vacancy.
Before signing, compare the verbal offer with the document. Check especially carefully:
the legal name of the employer or agency;
the workplace address;
the position and actual duties;
the contract type;
the gross rate;
the guaranteed hours;
the supplements and bonus conditions;
all deductions;
the payment date;
the accommodation and transport rules.
Do not sign a document that contains blank fields or conditions that differ from the correspondence. Ask for a copy of the agreement in a language you understand or time to have it translated. If the position requires a medical examination, training, or authorisation, clarify who arranges and pays for it.
WORKIUM verifies the available information about the employer and the key vacancy conditions before publication. However, the candidate must also check the final agreement: the schedule, address, or start date may change after the initial publication.
Submit documents only through a clear channel to a specific employer or recruiter. Do not pay a «vacancy reservation» fee to a private bank card and do not buy a ticket until you have written confirmation of the address, rate, agreement, and start date.
A brief sequence of steps:
choose a vacancy in the catalogue;
check the company name and contact details;
request a full description of the conditions;
compare the rate, hours, accommodation, and journey;
obtain written confirmation;
only then plan the move.
Review current WORKIUM vacancies and compare offers using the same criteria. It is better not to plan departure until the recruiter has confirmed the exact address, guaranteed hours, and all deductions.
Your earnings depend on the position, the type of contract, the number of working hours, night shifts, and bonuses. Compare the gross pay, the guaranteed number of working hours, and all deductions. The statutory minimum wage is not a guarantee of the typical pay for a specific job. Ask the employer to provide an estimated pay calculation based on your work schedule and to list all deductions in writing.
Such vacancies are available in basic manufacturing and warehouse operations. Confirm which language is used for safety instructions, whether a coordinator is available, and how to report a dangerous situation. The conditions for the specific vacancy should be confirmed before buying tickets.
