Belchatow is one of the best-known industrial centres in the Lodz Voivodeship. Many people associate the city primarily with the energy sector and open-cast lignite mining, but the local labour market is much broader. In addition to energy companies, vacancies regularly appear in manufacturing, logistics, warehousing, transport, retail, construction, and industrial infrastructure maintenance.
When looking for work, it is important to remember that “Belchatow” in a vacancy does not always mean that the workplace is within the city limits. Some companies operate in industrial zones around Belchatow, in neighbouring municipalities, or along major transport routes. Before accepting an offer, it is therefore worth checking the company's actual address and travel time.
Belchatow is located in central Poland, in the Lodz Voivodeship. For many decades, the city developed around its energy complex and lignite mining industry, creating a major industrial cluster. Even if a person does not plan to work directly in the energy sector, this industry generates demand for many supporting occupations.
The modern labour market includes companies in many sectors. Employers look for production-line workers, equipment operators, electricians, mechanics, warehouse workers, drivers, order pickers, and staff for logistics, construction, maintenance, and retail.
Belchatow also serves as an employment centre for surrounding communities. Many people commute daily from neighbouring municipalities, and some workplaces may be several or even dozens of kilometres from the city centre.
Unlike tourist destinations, the local economy is less dependent on seasonality. This means that a significant share of vacancies is connected with the stable year-round operation of industrial companies.
Energy remains Belchatow's best-known industry, but it is far from the only one. Jobs are also available in metal products manufacturing, mechanical engineering, transport services, warehouse logistics, equipment maintenance, and services.
Some workplaces are not in the central districts but near industrial areas or roads leading out of Belchatow. This affects an employee's daily commute, so the name of the town should not be treated as an exact workplace address.
When considering vacancies in the surrounding area, searches often extend towards Szczercow, Kleszczow, Zdunska Wola, Piotrkow Trybunalski, or Lodz. Some employers arrange transport for staff, while others expect employees to commute by their own car or by public transport.
Because of this regional feature, two vacancies with the same title may differ significantly in actual travel time.
Before submitting an application, compare more than just the pay. Working conditions can differ noticeably even in similar positions.
Pay attention to:
Check separately whether the employee's duties are specified. The phrase “production work” may include packing, assembling parts, quality control, operating machinery, or physical loading work.
It is best to read the full vacancy description on WORKIUM and clarify any unclear terms before agreeing to employment.
As of 19 August 2026, the minimum wage in Poland is PLN 4,806 gross per month for full-time employment under an umowa o pracę contract.
For contracts subject to the statutory minimum hourly rate, the minimum is PLN 31.40 gross per hour.
Gross means the amount before taxes and social contributions. Net is the money the employee actually receives after all statutory deductions. The final amount depends on the type of contract, tax situation, and other individual factors.
Comparison example:
The difference exceeds PLN 980 gross solely because of the rate and number of hours.
Another example shows why a vacancy should not be judged by the hourly rate alone. At PLN 32 gross per hour, an employee earns PLN 5,120 gross for 160 hours, but PLN 6,400 gross for 200 hours. Before deciding, ask how many hours the employer actually guarantees each month.
In Belchatow, transport arrangements often affect comfort more than a difference in the hourly rate.
Imagine that an employee rents accommodation near the city centre, while the company is located in an industrial zone outside the centre. The shift begins at 06:00.
If the staff bus leaves at 05:20, it is enough to leave the accommodation about ten minutes before boarding. If the employer does not provide transport, an early trip by private car or several changes on public transport may be necessary.
Over a month, even an extra 30–40 minutes each way adds up to dozens of hours spent travelling rather than at home. Before accepting a vacancy, calculate not only the salary but also the actual time the daily commute will take.
If a vacancy includes accommodation, do not stop at asking whether housing is available. It is much more useful to clarify the details.
Ask:
If the employer requires a security deposit, ask for an explanation of the conditions for refunding it after the job ends.
It is also worth checking whether utilities, cleaning, or staff transport are charged separately. Such costs can sometimes have the greatest effect on final take-home pay.
Before making a final choice, open two or three offers and compare them using the same criteria.
Check:
This approach helps prevent a vacancy with a higher rate from proving less attractive because of longer travel times or additional charges.
Start your job search by carefully comparing several current vacancies. Do not rush to apply solely because the city name is familiar or the hourly rate looks attractive.
Read the vacancy description and pay attention to the workplace, schedule, number of hours, type of contract, and accommodation information. If any conditions are not described, clarify them before completing the paperwork.

Ask for the company's full address before applying and check it on a map. The city name is sometimes used as a general reference for vacancies in the suburbs or an industrial zone. Compare the workplace address with your accommodation, schedule, and transport options for both early and late shifts.
Monthly pay depends on the base rate, guaranteed hours, allowances, bonuses, and all deductions. Check whether the quoted amount is before or after tax. For a fair comparison, ask for a calculation based on a specific schedule and subtract housing and transport costs.
Such vacancies exist, but the requirements depend on the position. Employees must understand safety training, work assignments, and messages from their supervisor. Before travelling, find out which language is used for training, whether a coordinator is available, and whether you need to read signs or work with documents.
Ask for the exact address, recent photos, full price, number of people per room, and deposit refund rules. Check the journey to the workplace for every shift separately. A note saying “accommodation provided” does not explain its condition, cost, or location.
Before buying a ticket, keep written confirmation of the position, duties, address, contract, rate, guaranteed hours, schedule, accommodation, transport, and all deductions. You should also have the contact details of the coordinator responsible for your arrival and first working day.
