What jobs are available to women

The job offer we tested hired women to grow seedlings, plant seedlings, and seasonal berry work. This is just one example. Other job postings for women may include food packaging, sorting, warehouse operations, production lines, or flower farms. The number and type of such jobs may vary depending on the season and the needs of employers.

The duties of this vacancy included:

• sorting seedlings;
• planting seedlings in pots;
• moving pallets with plants;
• planting strawberries in pots in the open field;
• helping with the installation of irrigation systems;
• seasonal picking of raspberries and strawberries.

Find out what operations will be the main ones on the date of arrival. If the employer is recruiting female workers for sorting, and after arrival most of the shift will be spent working in the field, the conditions should be explained in advance.

Individual vacancies in flowers, farms or specific crops may have different requirements and seasonality. They should be considered on the relevant pages, and not mixed with all female offers.

Conditions of the Genson vacancy

On the date of the check, the Genson card showed:

• € 14.99 gross per hour;
• € 2,700-3,370 gross per month;
• schedule Mon-Fri;
• housing € 506 per month;
• free job;
• WORKIUM bonus € 50 after 30 working days.

The rate of €14.99 is the legal minimum for employees aged 21 and over, effective from 1 July 2026. For female candidates aged 18-20, lower age rates apply in the Netherlands, so ask for written confirmation of your rate before processing.

The monthly range is not a separate guarantee. For rates of €14.99, €2,700 corresponds to approximately 180 hours, and €3,370 corresponds to approximately 225 regular hours without increased coefficients. Ask to see how many hours are guaranteed by the contract and how the upper limit is formed.

The €50 bonus is a one-off payment from WORKIUM after 30 working days. It should not be added to your regular monthly salary.

What the workday involves

A convenient job title is no substitute for a description of a typical day. It’s important to know what time the shift starts, where it takes place, how long each operation takes, and how often the tasks change.

For example, during one day, a candidate might spend several hours sorting seedlings, then planting plants in pots and moving trays. During another period, the main work may be working outside with strawberries.

Find out:

• whether there is a production rate;
• how speed and quality are measured;
• whether training is paid;
• how long the adaptation period lasts;
• whether the employee can change the operation if she experiences back or arm pain;
• in what language the training is conducted.

The phrase “everyone will be taught on the spot” is not enough. It is important to know how the training is conducted, who conducts the briefing and when the employee starts working independently. Before the first shift, she should understand the safety rules, the correct way to lift trays and know the contact information of the responsible person.

How to assess physical demands

When talking to the employer, ask a few specific questions:

• How much does one tray or pallet weigh?
• Do you need to lift the load from the floor?
• How many hours will you have to stand or work at an angle?
• Is there any kneeling work?
• What is the temperature in the greenhouse?
• How much time do you spend outside?
• Are shoes, gloves and clothing provided?

The card mentions moving pallets, but without weights it is impossible to estimate the workload. A photo or video of the work process will help to understand whether trolleys are used and how the products are moved.

Repetitive movements can be just as tiring as a heavy load. If the operation is performed hundreds of times per shift, pace, the ability to change body positions and real breaks are important.

Even if the vacancy is open to women, the workload can be noticeable. The specific responsibilities, weight, body position, temperature and shift length are still decisive.

How to check pay and hours

For rates of €14.99 gross, the arithmetic calculation is:

• 160 hours — €2,398.40 gross;
• 180 hours — €2,698.20 gross;
• 200 hours — €2,998 gross.

These are the amounts before taxes, contributions and expenses. The net depends on your personal situation, so you cannot subtract housing from the gross and call the result a cash payment.

Before signing the contract, specify:

• the current rate for your age;
• guaranteed hours;
• shift length;
• overtime pay;
• unpaid breaks;
• date of first salary;
• all deductions.

If the employer shows the upper amount of €3,370, let him explain in writing what hours and additional payments it consists of. Plan your budget based on the guaranteed hours and the base rate.

Accommodation and commuting

The card had housing for €506 per month. This figure does not account for the room, utilities, deposit and transport, so housing remains one of the criteria for choosing a vacancy.

Before moving in, find out:

• how many women live in the room;
• whether the house is mixed;
• whether there is a lock in the room;
• what is the total fee;
• whether a deposit is required;
• how much time until work;
• whether a bicycle or a bus is provided;
• when you need to move out after the contract ends.

If the accommodation is far away, the daily commute increases the costs and the actual length of the working day. Compare not just €506, but the entire route from the door to the workplace.

How to tell whether a vacancy is suitable

Check three things: whether you can withstand the regular shift, whether the income after expenses is satisfactory and whether the start date coincides. If at least one answer is unknown, it is too early to return to booking.

Take a short self-test:

• name the weight that you can safely lift many times;
• calculate the minimum acceptable income after housing and transportation;
• determine how many hours you are willing to work standing;
• decide whether working in the heat and outdoors is suitable;
• check whether you will understand the briefing;
• agree on the exact departure date.

If there are health restrictions, tell them about them before the agreement. Then the employer can explain whether another operation is available, and the candidate will not find out after arrival that the job is not suitable for her.

What to confirm before travelling

Before buying a ticket, ask in writing:

• the name and address of the employer;
• the exact duties on the date of arrival;
• tray weight and nature of work;
• current rate;
• guaranteed hours;
• schedule, breaks and bonuses;
• housing and transportation;
• insurance;
• type of contract and CAO;
• contact of the coordinator.

Save the job card and compare it with the contract. If the rate, city, job, schedule or housing price have changed, ask for a new written confirmation before leaving.
