Jobs in the Netherlands for men are positions open to men who meet the age, workload and schedule requirements. To understand the actual conditions, check the weight of the loads, how long employees work in a bent position and the guaranteed hours.

As of August 19, 2026, two current offers in greenhouses and horticulture were available to men in the WORKIUM catalog: growing Genson seedlings and working with Vissers strawberries and asparagus. The first accepted men and women, the second - men.

What jobs are available to men

In the verified catalog, men were hired to grow seedlings, work with strawberries and asparagus, sort seedlings, pack pots, move pallets, and support processes in the greenhouse and in the field.

In practice, one job title can include several different operations. At Genson, an employee:

• sorts seedlings;
• plants seedlings in pots;
• moves pallets;
• plants strawberries in an open field;
• helps to install irrigation systems;
• collects raspberries and strawberries in season.

At Vissers, you have to sort and transplant seedlings, pack pots onto pallets and trays, move produce in carts and feed it to the production line.

This is an important difference: a job with carts and a production line has a different pace from planting in a field. Before applying, ask what a typical shift looks like and how long each operation takes.

Genson and Vissers conditions

Genson, Sint-Oedenrode:

• men and women aged 18–60;
• €14.99 gross per hour;
• 2,700–3,370 € gross per month;
• Mon-Fri schedule;
• housing €506 per month;
• €50 WORKIUM bonus after 30 working days.

Vissers, America, about 25 km from Venlo:

• men aged 23–55;
• €14.71 gross per hour in the card;
• 2,824–4,563 € gross per month;
• Mon-Sat schedule;
• housing 250–530 € per month;
• €80 WORKIUM bonus after 300 hours.

From July 1, 2026, the minimum wage for an employee aged 21 and over is €14.99 gross per hour. Therefore, the current rate of Vissers should be clarified and confirmed in the contract before starting work.

Genson has a higher hourly rate and a shorter Mon-Fri work week, but a higher fixed housing cost. Vissers shows a lower minimum housing cost and a higher monthly upper limit, but uses a Mon-Sat schedule; ask separately how the maximum amount is calculated.

Bonuses cannot be compared only by amount either. €50 requires 30 working days, €80 requires 300 hours. These are lump sum payments, not part of a fixed rate.

How to assess physical activity

Before accepting a vacancy, ask the employer a few specific questions:

• What is the maximum weight of one tray or pallet?
• How many hours of a shift is spent standing or leaning?
• Do you need to lift the load from the floor?
• How often are the carts moved?
• Is the job outside in the rain or the sun?
• What is the temperature in the greenhouse?
• Do they issue shoes, gloves and work clothes?

For example, the phrase "moving pallets" can mean manually moving individual trays or moving a loaded cart. This is a different load. Ask to name the weight and show the process in a photo or video.

Working with seedlings often involves repetitive hand movements and prolonged standing. If a candidate has back, knee or hand problems, it is best to discuss the specific tasks before the medical examination rather than after the first shift.

The label "for men" does not automatically mean that the work is physically demanding. The workload depends on the specific duties, the weight of the loads, the pace of work and the duration of the shift.

How to compare rate and hours

At a rate of €14.99 gross, a simple calculation is:

• 160 hours — €2,398.40 gross;
• 180 hours — €2,698.20 gross;
• 200 hours — €2,998 gross.

Genson lists monthly pay starting at €2,700. This is approximately 180 hours at the base rate. The upper figure of €3,370 corresponds to about 225 regular hours if higher rates are not taken into account.

The maximum €4,563 at Vissers cannot be considered guaranteed. For €14.99, that's over 304 regular hours. Ask for a written explanation of how this amount is calculated: basic hours, overtime, extra pay and the period in which it is achievable.

Compare not only the monthly maximum:

• current gross rate;
• guaranteed hours;
• number of shifts per week;
• additional payments for overtime and days off;
• unpaid breaks;
• deductions for housing, transport and insurance;
• the date of the first salary.

A Mon-Sat position may bring in more because of additional hours, but it leaves less time for rest. Choose based on the balance of income, workload and expenses, not the largest advertised figure.

What to check in housing and transport

In Genson, housing cost €506 per month, in Vissers - €250-530. It is incorrect to compare only the lower limit: different options may differ in room, address and transport.

Before check-in, check:

• how many men live in the room;
• whether there is a deposit and utility payments;
• whether the fee is withheld weekly or monthly;
• whether they provide a bicycle or a bus;
• who pays for the repair of the bicycle;
• how long the journey takes;
• when you need to move out after finishing work.

For example, housing for €250 may be further from the enterprise and require paid transport. The €506 option may be more convenient if you are close to work. Compare not only housing costs, but all costs and travel times.

Who is suitable for such a job?

Genson may suit a man who is willing to handle a variety of plant operations, greenhouse and outdoor work and wants a Mon-Fri schedule. Vissers is more suited to a candidate ready for Mon-Sat, production line, carts and seasonal workload.

Before applying, assess your own limits:

• permissible weight;
• willingness to work at an incline;
• attitude to heat and work outside;
• maximum shift duration;
• readiness for Saturdays;
• minimum income after expenses;
• the need for a coordinator in an understandable language.

If the employer provides on-site training, this does not waive the safety and physical fitness requirements. Ask how long the training lasts, whether it is paid for and who evaluates the results.

Vacancies for men without experience should include clear instructions, not just a promise "we'll show you everything." The employee must know how to lift a load, use a cart and report an injury.

How to prepare for departure

Before buying a ticket, ask in writing:

• employer's name and address;
• list of duties;
• maximum weight;
• current gross rate;
• guaranteed hours;
• schedule and surcharges;
• housing and transport;
• insurance;
• type of contract and applicable CAO;
• coordinator contact.
