Work in Frankfurt am Main does not always mean that the company is located within the city itself. Some offers may refer to Offenbach, Neu-Isenburg, Eschborn, Kelsterbach, or another location in the metropolitan area, so the same city name in advertisements does not necessarily mean the same route or the same actual time commitment.
Before applying, compare the specific duties, workload, guaranteed hours, gross rate, supplements, company address, shift start time, and whether the workplace can be reached by public or company transport. The information on statutory minimum conditions in this material was updated on 12 August 2026.

View vacancies in Frankfurt am Main
Vacancies may appear in Frankfurt and nearby towns in logistics, warehouses, sorting, packing, order picking, manufacturing, cleaning, hotel and restaurant services, and other service work. The proximity of a major transport hub affects the number of shift-based jobs, but airport work has its own specific features, so it is not covered in detail here. The job title does not always make the duties clear: a «logistics worker» may receive goods, sort, pick, pack, or move orders between areas.
The WORKIUM team therefore recommends starting not with the vacancy title but with answers to five questions:
Which action must be performed during the shift?
Is there a target, line pace, or plan?
How much weight must be lifted?
Is standing required throughout the shift?
Where exactly is the company located?
Practical example. Two offers may both be called «warehouse worker», but in one the employee picks small orders with a scanner, while in the other they manually move filled containers between areas. These involve different workloads for the candidate, even if the rate is the same.
Read more about documents and employment rules on the work in Germany page. This page focuses specifically on choosing a local vacancy in Frankfurt am Main.
Ask for a detailed explanation of what must be done during the shift: how the task begins, which actions are performed by hand or with equipment, how long one operation takes, how the result is checked, and where the finished product or order is sent.
For warehouse work, clarify:
what is stored;
how order picking is performed;
whether a scanner is used;
whether there is an order target;
the maximum weight;
whether equipment must be operated;
whether cleaning the work area is part of the duties.
For manufacturing work, ask about the line pace, repeated movements, noise, temperature, protective equipment, and time spent standing. If the answer is limited to the phrase «easy work», the description is not sufficient for choosing a vacancy.
The greatest misunderstandings arise when the candidate and employer interpret the same job title differently. A written description of the duties helps establish whether the actual work matches what was promised before travelling or before the first shift.
Check separately whether constant standing, bending, raising the arms, carrying loads, or repeated movements are required. The words «up to 15 kg» do not explain the frequency: lifting a box twice during a shift and carrying it every few minutes create different workloads.
Useful specific questions:
the minimum and maximum weight of the items;
how many times per hour they must be moved;
whether the workstation or body position can be changed;
whether there are areas with higher or lower temperatures;
the noise level and which protective equipment is provided;
whether training is provided before independent work.
Typical situation. An advertisement states «quality control». Before starting work, clarify whether this means visually inspecting lightweight parts at a table or checking products on a line with a constant pace and manually moving containers.
If the employer cannot clearly explain the nature of the work, do not assess the vacancy only from photographs or the job title.
As a general rule in Germany, the working day is up to 8 hours. It may be extended to 10 hours if the average returns to 8 hours within six calendar months or 24 weeks.
For work exceeding 6 and up to 9 hours, at least 30 minutes of breaks are required, and for work exceeding 9 hours, at least 45 minutes. Breaks may be divided into periods of at least 15 minutes. An employee should not work for more than 6 consecutive hours without a break. After a shift, the employee should generally receive at least 11 consecutive hours of rest.
The vacancy should state not only «two shifts» or «three shifts» but the exact times:
the start and finish of each shift;
the number of working days per week;
whether there are night, Sunday, or public-holiday shifts;
the length of paid and unpaid breaks;
how the schedule is prepared and when changes are announced;
whether all stated hours are guaranteed.
Example. A night shift ends at 05:00, but the first convenient route back to the accommodation departs much later. Public transport is technically available in the area, but the employee would have to wait after work. This is why the journey should be checked separately for the start and finish of every shift.
From 1 January 2026, the general minimum rate in Germany is €13.90 gross for each hour actually worked. It is scheduled to increase to €14.60 from 1 January 2027. «Gross» means the amount before taxes and social-security contributions; net pay depends on individual circumstances.
To compare vacancies, record:
the gross hourly or monthly rate;
the guaranteed number of paid hours;
the time-recording rules;
supplements for night, Sunday, public-holiday, or overtime work;
the conditions for receiving a bonus;
the payment date;
all possible deductions.
Illustrative calculation. At a rate of €15.20 gross and 160 hours actually paid, the basic gross pay is €2,432. At the same rate and 180 hours, it is €2,736 gross. This is not a forecast of net salary: taxes and contributions may still be deducted, and supplements must be calculated separately.
If a vacancy states only the hourly rate but does not confirm the minimum number of paid hours, it is impossible to compare the real income from two offers. First establish which hours are guaranteed in writing and which depend on orders or additional shifts.
The phrase «up to €3,000» does not show guaranteed income. Ask for the basic rate, guaranteed hours, supplements, and bonuses to be stated separately. The maximum amount should not be treated as guaranteed income without conditions defined in writing.
The phrase «Frankfurt am Main» in a vacancy headline may refer to the city, a district, or the wider metropolitan area. Some companies are located in industrial districts or on the outskirts, so the full address is often more important than the city name in the vacancy. Check the route for morning, evening, and night shifts before accepting the conditions.
To assess the vacancy, calculate:
the time from the accommodation to the first stop;
waiting times and transfers;
the route from the final stop to the gate;
a time allowance for delays;
the return journey after the shift.
Assess not only the hourly rate but also how much time the journey will take each day. If the shift lasts 8 hours and the return journey takes another 2.5 hours, the full working day will take approximately 10.5 hours, excluding preparation time.
If the employer offers company transport, clarify where it departs from, whether it operates for every shift, how much it costs, who is responsible for delays, and what happens if the employee finishes work later.
Check that the written conditions state:
the employer's legal name;
the workplace;
the start date;
the position and specific duties;
the gross rate;
working time;
the overtime rules;
annual leave;
the probationary period, if applicable;
the notice periods for ending the agreement;
supplements and bonuses;
the applicable collective agreement, if any.
Do not rely on a verbal promise if it affects income or the ability to work: guaranteed hours, the supplement amount, the schedule, and transport should be confirmed in writing.
Practical risk. An advertisement may state «bonus up to €500». Without calculation rules, this is only the upper limit. Clarify whether the payment depends on attendance, productivity, absence of lateness, or meeting the target, and whether the employer may change the conditions.
It is easier to compare vacancies using the same criteria:
the specific duties;
repeated movements and maximum weight;
temperature, noise, and protective equipment;
the schedule, breaks, and rest;
guaranteed paid hours;
the gross rate;
guaranteed supplements;
the full address;
transport for each shift;
the employer and agreement type.
Example. Vacancy A offers €15.60 gross, 160 guaranteed hours, and a journey requiring two transfers. Vacancy B offers €14.90 gross, 180 hours, and a direct company bus. The first has a higher rate, but the second may provide higher basic pay and require less travel time. The final choice depends on the hours, supplements, workload, and agreement being confirmed in writing.

From 1 January 2026, the general minimum wage is €13.90 gross per hour actually worked. Ask for a calculation based on the specific work schedule and a written list of all deductions.
Yes, but only if the average working day is brought back to 8 hours over the legally defined reference period.
The workplace may be located outside central Frankfurt am Main, in another district or a nearby town. The exact address and shift times determine whether transportation is actually available. Ask for the precise address and check the route from your accommodation to the workplace for each shift.
No. You should consider the guaranteed working hours, additional pay, physical workload, contract terms, commuting route, and the total time spent away from home. Ask for a calculation based on the specific work schedule and a written list of all deductions.
